It’s October 9th, 2023 and I’m ramping up for a lifetime (or as one of my favorite nieces describes it, an “epic”) adventure: During the months of May and June 2024 I’m embarking on a Coast to Coast Cycling Tour: Los Angeles, CA to Burlington, MA.
During my early training months, I’ll be focusing on endurance, conditioning, strength, and general logistics:
- Endurance: I’ve increased my weekly distance goal from 100 to 200 miles and intend to continue increasing as time goes by.
- Conditioning: Besides working on my “base” endurance, I’ll continue with 2/week indoor cycling classes. One emphasizes aerobic training, the other focuses on anaerobic training. I’ll include a balance of other activities such as Pickleball and Walking. In addition, I’ll try to stick to my “don’t eat crap diet”.
- Strength: Currently I’m participating in a weekly group “Power” class. I plan on adding in another day of solo strength training.
- Logistics: This will be an on-going process that will include such mundane items as replacing worn-out cycling shorts to making certain all of my bills will be paid while I’m on the road.
The items listed above will help me build a solid foundation. I’m expecting to ramp it up following an early February recovery week. (More on that in a future entry.)
