Century Day

(Entry originally posted 14 October 2023)

I know we will have the opportunity to ride several centuries during our Coast to Coast ride next year. (A century ride is 100 or more miles.) So I decided it was time to see how my post middle aged body would handle the ordeal. — All in all, pretty well In fact I logged a couple of personal firsts:

  • My first solo century. — I’ve ridden several century rides in the past but they were always part of an organized and supported ride. This time I was on my own, so I had to manage the rote as well as my hydration and self-fueling.
  • My first ride with a stop at Dover followed by a “dash” up “girl Scout Camp Hill”. And later, a climb up “Puke Hill” followed by a break in Overbrook. I done several rides where each half was performed separately; this was the first time I’ve combined them.

I’m please with my current endurance level but am aware I will need to continue to work on my endurance, strength, and speed. Or, it’s gonna be a long trip.

Plenty of fall scenery on my trip. (West side, Lake Shawnee)

You lost me at Puke Hill!!! But I’m impressed. In order to help with your training, I am prepared to sacrifice my own health and physical fitness by offering to consume 75% of your share of the beer during the trip to Mexico. I would take 100%, but feel I really should leave a little something for the kids………

    1. That is an extremely gracious offer. However, I’m thinking I’ll need to quaff a couple of brews as “recovery fluids”. Besides, the kids can fend for themselves!!!!
